Welcome to Herndon's Hollow, where every blend tells a story, and every ingredient is chosen with care.
I’m Rachel, the heart and hands behind Herndon's Hollow. We specialize in small-batch, hand-mixed seasonings, popcorn seasonings, gluten-free baking mixes, gluten-free (and classic) brownies and cookies, and popcorn, all crafted with a commitment to quality and flavor.
Our Ingredients & Process
We grow as many of our own herbs as possible, ensuring they are cultivated naturally—without chemicals or pesticides, only using organic fertilizer when needed. For ingredients we can’t grow ourselves, such as sesame seeds, cinnamon, and cardamom, we source organic or all-natural alternatives to maintain our high standards.
As of November 2023, we’ve taken our commitment to quality even further with the addition of a freeze dryer. This allows us to transition our herbs from dehydrated to freeze-dried, intensifying their flavor and extending their shelf life.
Our gluten-free baking mixes are crafted with care, using only gluten-free, non-GMO, and primarily organic ingredients. While our kitchen is not certified gluten-free, we take strict precautions, including separate utensils and sanitized workspaces, to prevent cross-contamination.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Herndon's Hollow is a nod to the place we call home. 'Hollow' comes from the name of the street where we live, and just like our products, it reflects a sense of warmth, authenticity, and connection to nature.
Meet the Maker
Gardening has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but my passion for herbs truly took off about seven years ago. When my herb garden began producing more than my family could possibly use, I started selling the surplus. That simple idea soon blossomed into a full-fledged business, as I experimented with crafting unique seasoning blends and flavorful mixes.
I’ve called Idaho home since 2009 (with a few years prior to 2004 as well) and have worked in a variety of fields, including non-profits, libraries, hospitality, and farmers markets. Along the way, I’ve earned an Associate of Applied Science in Library Science, a Certificate in Creative Writing, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, along with various other certifications.
Beyond the Kitchen
When I’m not blending the next great seasoning or testing new ideas, you’ll find me:
- Spending time with my nephew, who keeps life fun and full of adventure.
- Curled up with a book—sometimes a great one, sometimes just a “good enough” one.
- Sipping on coffee, hot cocoa, or Moscato while enjoying a favorite movie or TV show.
- Baking or refurbishing old campers, because creativity doesn’t stop in the kitchen.
- Writing, but under a pseudonym—some secrets are best kept under wraps.
